Collaborative trail maintenance in Orsières
🛠️ ProVTT and Entretrail join forces for the trails of Val d'Entremont 🛠️
On August 30, 2024, under a radiant sun, around twenty volunteers mobilized to maintain a 2.32 km section on the heights of Orsières. A day of action led in partnership between the association Entretrail, rider and shaper Ludo May, and ProVTT Valais, with the invaluable support of the municipality of Orsières.
This initiative is part of a strong regional effort to preserve and improve the mountain biking and hiking trails of Val de Bagnes and Entremont, for the benefit of all mountain users.
🤝 An exemplary collaboration between associations, professionals, and the local community
Two employees from the municipality of Orsières were present on site to accompany the volunteers. The municipality also generously provided accommodation for lunch, a friendly moment that strengthened ties between all the participants. We would also like to thank Laura Tissières for her help in organizing this wonderful day.
On this occasion, associations, professionals, and local stakeholders pooled their skills to revive the trail. Drainage, repair of eroded sections, removal of illegal cuts (paths created by users in a hurry), occasional narrowing to control speed, and even the installation of a sign to raise awareness of mutual respect between cyclists and walkers: every action counted in making this route safer, more sustainable, and more enjoyable.
"This type of collective project perfectly embodies the spirit we desire for mountain biking in Valais: responsible, respectful, and unifying. » — ProVTT Valais
🏞️ 2.32 km of groomed trail in the heart of the Valais mountains
Thanks to the energy exerted by all the participants, the affected section has returned to optimal quality. Located between Montagne de Moay and Forêt des Crêtes, this now secure segment will offer riders a better riding experience, while ensuring the trail's durability in the face of weather conditions and increasing traffic.
The work also promotes harmonious coexistence between different users, both pedestrians and cyclists, with facilities designed to control speed and prevent the risk of conflict.
🌟 A great local dynamic for the sustainability of the trails
This day fully illustrates the importance of partnerships between local mountain biking stakeholders, trail building professionals, and public authorities. By combining their efforts, they contribute to the sustainability of quality trails in a spirit of openness and shared responsibility. This wonderful momentum of participatory maintenance sets the tone for future projects in Valais: living trails, maintained collectively, and designed to last!
