Our history

Pro VTT is a non-profit association whose goal is to promote mountain biking in all its forms, in particular, to promote free access for cyclists on and off trails, while respecting legal requirements. In 2014, it was the investigation into a ban on driving on the bisses in the Sion region, which led to the creation of the association and the launch of a petition by its members.
The Pro VTT association then intervened with the Canton of Valais to find an alternative solution to the ban on access for mountain bikes to the Réchy valley. Without calling into question the merits of protecting the valley, Pro VTT deplores that cycling cannot be considered a form of gentle tourism, in the same way as hiking. In order to limit the negative impact of This decision in the “mountain bike” world, Pro VTT proposes that access to the protected area remains authorized for carried or pushed mountain bikes and that this be explicitly mentioned on the signage to be put in place. On the “direct” route, between Le Pichioc and the Col de Cou, taken by the majority of cyclists, the difference in altitude already requires the bike to be carried.
In Bovernier, responding to complaints from some residents and walkers, the Municipality of Bovernier has decided to prohibit the circulation of bicycles on several trails in the Champex valley and the Ecoteaux sector. A petition has been launched to ask the Municipality of Bovernier to reconsider its position. Following the oppositions (supported by this petition signed by more than 1000 people) received as part of the investigation into the ban on cycles and mopeds, the Bovernier Municipal Council has decided to review its copy.
